Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Bookmark

Alright folks.  I made a new bookmark.  I have yet to finish the Harry Potter series of bookmarks so I started up again.  Now that I am only using good clay I thought it might be a little more fun now and less frustrating.  It is.  I can now focus more on the art and design of it and less on the flawed technical aspect of it.  (falling apart, not sticking together, mushing in between the warmth of my fingers)  Now that these struggles are finally things of the past I could get to work.  So, here is my latest bookmark.
Dumbledore, Slytherin's Locket, and a Love Potion made up the bookmark for the Half Blood Prince.

Thanks for visiting.

Avacado Bacon Burger Key cover

Avocado, Bacon, Cheeseburger done in Polymer clay on a key.  I think it came out ok... Should have made the meat a little bigger maybe so I didn't have to add so much lettuce?  Maybe?  Their is definitely a need to work on some texturizing techniques.  But, since hamburgers aren't exactly a new idea I thought I'd show you how I did it.
The key to having a key cover that doesn't fall off or break into pieces would be these, get good clay (Premo is my preferred clay), and wrap directly around the key and cook at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes or more.  (make sure to preheat your oven)
Those are about all the tips I have for you.
Hope to see you all Sunday.

My Neighbor Totoro in Clay

Well, I am still on my clay binge and although I have done a lot of other things around the house I have only taken pictures of the charms I've made.  Maybe next week I will have some proper pictures of the curtains I have hung and maybe some tips on how to do it yourself.  Hope you like this small picture.
Hopefully I see you around on Wednesday.

No time

Sorry to disappoint, but I didn't craft at all. The three day weekend got away from me.
I didn't even take any pictures of the curtains I put up.  I promise to have something good on Sunday.
So, hope to see you then.

Polymer clay Hair

I have obviously been getting into my clay work but I don't have much time to do it.  So, one charm which takes 30 minutes takes days to do just because I don't get to it.  My polymer clay charms have gotten a lot better.  It helps to have good clay, (Premo) but it also requires technique.  I found this technique on Youtube.  Check it out.
Once you have a good hairline you can add any sort of embellishment.  The hairline assures you won't have base clay show through like you would if you tried to lay down singular strands.

Second try at Jack Burton.  Hope you like it... His weapon has gotten way to big but his face is better.  His hair still needs a lot of work.

Hope to see you Wednesday.

A very poor attempt at a Jack Burton Charm

Big Trouble in Little China is one of my favorite films.  I tried to honor it with a clay charm... but, I don't think it is quite coming out.  Here you go.  Fresh out of the toaster oven.
P.S. It's unglazed... yuck.
YUCK AGAIN!  But, I do like the idea.  and my weaponry has gotten a lot better.  I think.

Thanks for coming by.  See you again on Sunday.

Easy Discount Decor

My husband has been working on his "Man Cave" and I am helping a little in the way of how he decorates.  He wanted to put up some of the covers from his Entertainment weeklies so we got some cheap frames at 99 Cent only Stores and choose some of his favorite covers.  We cut them to size then put then up.  They give elegance to something toss away and I even like the address bar adds something more quaint to the covers.

Thanks for coming by.  Hope this helps you spice up a room.  Maybe even use a page from your favorite magazine, Parenthood, Taste of Home, maybe Hot Rod Magazine.
Hope to see you soon.

The Chewy Predicament

Chewbacca, or AKA Chewy has been a bit of a dilemma for me.  First off, I love the cuddly ones, Ewoks, Chewbacca, the like but they are also the toughest for me as an artist.  I really don't practice any of my craft enough so when it comes to Polymer clay and a fluffy type character I really am stuck on how to do it justice and in my own design.  For example, I have been extremely inspired by a few adorable charms I have found online.  Let me show you first.

This is one I found on Pinterest.

Now here's mine.  I have not gotten a handle on it.

Super epic fail!  Looks like a sloth.

See you again soon and maybe next time there will be a better version of a Wookie.

"May the Fourth" be with you

Hey Kids!
Love Star Wars.  LOVE STAR WARS!!!  I don't have it memorized like some because I am an all around geek!  I love all things nerdy.  But, I did just find out about May the Fourth being Star Wars day.  Get it?  "may the forth"-force be with you. HA!
Any how.  I made a few little charms while watching the original trilogy.  Here they are.

I did a Chewbacca charm too but wasn't able to finish it with glaze and all.  I'll show it off by Wednesday.

See you guys Wednesday.
I hope.  Going to my first motorcycle training course and it's until 11PM.  So, it might be a late post.

Why haven't I Posted?

Well folks, let me tell you, I have not settled in.  I may never be settled...(she said jokingly)  Things are pretty crazy around here.  My husband and I share a car.  That means if he had to be at work at 5AM I have to get him there.  If I don't get off until 7:15PM (which is always) then he has to wait for me.  Life with one car has made for very long days. 12-15 hour days would be an acurrate time frame.  It doesn't give me a whole lot of time to unpack let alone craft/ post my crafts.  I'm sorry.
I had promised myself I'd make a fun and better web page, but I've failed.  I just don't have the time.  Someday my house will be more organized and I will have a meal plan for the work week but until than my posts are probably going to be sporatic and maybe a little sloppy.  I will try to keep them relevant when I do post and as well done as ever.  So don't forget me, I haven't given up yet, and neither should you.

I am looking into scooters, that might help my time problem and also give me my dream of being like Jessica Alba in Idol Hands!  You ever see it?  It used to be awesome!

Anyways, see you all soon.

If this post looks weird, it's because it was posted from my cell phone. :(

Magazine Envelope

I made a cute card, now what do I do about the envelope?  Simple, make one!  I just used tape and a page from a magazine to make this (as seen above) envelope for my cousin's birthday.  I didn't even do it up fancy... I just folded the edges down, taped up the sides, and folded the top over tape that down... and DONE!  You can just tape down cut pieces of paper with the address or if you are feeling fancy grab up some decorative template and create a more framed address space.  With scissors and tape you can do anything.  Anyways, it's not meant to stand the test of time or anything but with all the tape I used it will make it through the mail.
This would be great to do on cards and notes that don't have to go in the mail, and the designs are easy enough to change depending on the type/size of card.  This was for a creative 13 year old boy but if he were more into cars I could have ripped a page from automotive weekly.  If it were a friend of mine who loves gossip mags than maybe a page from US weekly.  Use your imagination.  The possiblities are endless.  Like; newspapers, books, old children's books, etc.  I think I am getting too excited.
I'm gonna go. Bye!

Metal door and Magnetic Curtain Rods

I have a metal door in my kitchen with a giant window to the street.  It's beautiful but we can't have it open to the public 24 hours a day so my Mom made these fabulous curtains and we went straight out and bought a couple of rods to hang them.  Well, it didn't work out very well because, stupid me, the door was metal and there was no way a screw was getting through that door.  So, after searching (Mom is like a dog with a bone) magnetic curtain rods were found.  Mom had them set up before I even got home.  It was a great surprise!  Plus they are awesome.  Even better than if I had installed curtain rods with screws, I can move them up and down the door or just remove them whenever I want without needing to uninstalling anything.  Once again, Awesome!
Thanks for stopping by.
Hope to see you all again soon.

Logo for Kalydoscopedolls

If you aren't on Instagram, than this might be new to you, but I am following a few crafters and artists on it and sometimes there are trades and contests going.  Well, kaleydoscopedolls has a contest going for a new Instagram logo.  I decided it would be fun to enter.  I realize I should probably be properly compensated but, frankly I am not making much from my art right now and might as well have a little fun.  So, I have decided to enter.  But, I am giving a few choice variations.  Let me know what you all think.

The ones with the lines below would be for her business name.  (the business name is intended to change soon, so I intentionally left it blank)
  Thanks so much for visiting.
I missed you all!  Don't forget me, I won't be gone forever!

90's Piercing Dilemma

Stuck in a 90's piercing funk?  Ever since Camryn Manheim won the Emmy in '98 I wanted earrings up my ears. Well, I got 'em.  Once a year for the next 7 years I added to the one piercing I already had to each ear.  I finally had piercings up each ear but, I couldn't sleep!  Each earring hole needs an earring stud.  Duh!  But, I didn't realize how sensitive my skin was until I tried putting a set of cheap earrings in my ears and ending the day with red swelling ears.  Having more than one piercing means if one piercing gets irritated others will follow.  To say the least I needed another plan!  One idea was just to put the 90's behind me and stick with two piercings, simple, classic and professional.... No!  I couldn't do it.  I worked to hard for these ears and I loved them!
One day while taking a day trip to Carmel I walked into a little gift shop and found 5" ear string.  It was a miricle cure for what ailed me.  The design is like a needle and thread, one end has a stiff needle like piece of metal and the other end has a stud.  You can thread it through any way you wanted and it came with a few decorative beads.  I think it was intentionally made for those who had one piercing in there cartilidge so they could decoratively connect it to the lobe piercing.  I used it a little differently.  Since I have a few more piercings then I did when I originally bought ear string I have upgraded to a 6" thread and ear string has since deflated I have to buy the thread from www.artbeads.com.  But, it's an amazing price and I think it looks pretty chic.  I ditched the beads years ago.
Without further ado, here you go!
See you all soon.

Craft deprived

I am craft deprived people!  I haven't done any arts and crafts in a span of about two months.  I've just been settling down, moving in, and working a lot.  Well that all should come to an end soon! I can't wait.  What should I work on first, any ideas?

Moving is hard

I hate moving! I could read a million books on the subject of moving and I would still suck at it! Luckily I have family and friends for help!  I threw a house warming in our new clean and empty house and I absolutely forgot to take pictures but, let me discribe the scene.  It was from 2-4PM Sunday the ninth of Feburary.  We tried serving an appetizer in each room... That quickly changed and moved all food into  the dining room.  It seemed that once a person saw the house once over they were defiantly content on hanging out in the dining room/kitchen/back porch/or living room.  So, leaving fabulous brownies in the back  bedroom just felt stupid not clever as I had originally thought.
We had a good friend lend us 8 or so folding chairs for those of who wanted to stay awhile or couldn't stand for very long.  Good thing to because they were defiantly used.  There were no decorations and the house had nothing in it yet, not even one framed photo on the wall.  My husband and I had basically rented a room for the past three years so anything we have as far as home decor, living furniture and the like has been limited to my craft space and our small bedroom which we had attempted to store our old apartment in.  (TV, bed, dresser, book shelf, computer, and the like). Since I didn't want people to see our house in that sparse condition I felt the only good time to have people over would be when it was still empty.  So, everyone came to the house to see it in its natural state.  Maybe we will have a BBQ later so everyone can see it more designed. :/
One cute thing I did do and wish I had done better was post a page in each room except the bathrooms and kitchen of our future plans for each room.  I used Pinterest to create five distinct boards with about 5-7 images that I felt best discribed our decor ideas for each room. I wish I had printed a bigger image because they printed out at about 5x7" so the images were really tiny.  The idea was still there and I liked that.  So did the people who noticed it.  The turn out was great and friends and family have been so generous with there time and gifts.  We couldn't be more grateful.
Stick around because once I stick my head back on my shoulders I'm going to show you all sorts of household hints, tips and tricks I've picked up since buying a home and some DIY on decorating.
Love you all readers and hope to see you soon!

House keys in Clay and Paint

I have so many house keys because we changed all the locks I had to vamp them up.  I haven't finished all of them yet but I have some (horrible) photos of the ones I have done so far.

My Mom is a seamstress so I whipped together this sewing themed house key.

Sorry again about this photo but if you hadn't already guessed this is Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc.  I used nail polish and acrylic paint.  The nail polish is nice because if it can last on your nails with high shine for awhile the key paint will last a bit.  (I am going to have to redo them when the paint starts to chip)

I hope to see you Sunday. Thanks for stopping by.

Decorative Boxes

I used shelf paper from the Dollar Tree, cut it to size and then when everything was covered I put a folded layer of duck tape along the lid trim and the top of the box.  Done and done and it looks so cute stacked in the closet vs. ugly boxes or really expensive decorative boxes.  Great money saver especially since the boxes were free.  Mix it up, do strips of different patterned paper and or extra layers of tape.  Have fun with it!

Thanks for stopping by, come by Wednesday and see what's new.
